Before we discuss the importance of English as a communication language for ASEAN Economic Community, we should know first ;

 “What is ASEAN Economic Community as well-known as AEC?”

On decade years ago, some leaders of ASEAN agreed to make a single market in the area of Southeast Asia at the end of 2015 later. It is made to increase the power of ASEAN competition and to get foreign investment, so we can compete with China, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Cambodia, and Brunei. 

ASEAN Economic Society (AEC) has a role as a bridge in this economic industry. It shares some benefits for a developing country such as Indonesia. Although in its implementation may arise some cons in society especially in Indonesian. AEC can make us easier to sell or give a service to another country in entire Southeast Asia so that there will be tough competition amongst countries.

“How do ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) influence us?”

ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is not only making an exchange of selling, investment, and service, but also makes an exchange of professional manpower such as Doctor, Lawyer, accountant, etc. Therefore, the ASEAN Economic Society will make a huge opportunity for foreign manpower to complete some positions or professions in Indonesia which has a low number of foreign manpower.

            The ASEAN Economic Community starts in 2015. “The Government of member States of ASEAN had the meeting in Singapore and have agreed that the communication language of ASEAN should be English”.

English as we’ve known as the International language, so the importance of present-days is that English is an international language used widely for communication in the world. English is very important in the business world nowadays. As in Indonesia, we have Bali Island which is famous for tourism. Bali citizens do business there, such as selling goodies or renting hotels, so they have to know about how the way to communicate with tourists by using English. It’s the proof that English is utilized in business language communication.

English plays the important role in ASEAN Economic Community(AEC), because it may be used as the official language of ASEAN. We should have an awareness of it and we have to improve our knowledge about the English language. The problem is not all Indonesian can speak English. Although, It can’t be avoided that English is an important tool to confront ASEAN Economic Community(AEC). If we’re able to speak English well, we can increase the value to get more respect. By learning the English language, we can get some respect in our surroundings, because not all people can speak English, so we have superiority over the other. If we can use English in our conversation, we have already had a provision to prepare when we have an interview to get a job in aboard. 

            English is a language that is acknowledged all over the world, so if we can understand English, we shouldn’t be afraid to face ASEAN Economic Community(AEC) in the future. It is clear that the advantage of learning English has a big impact on ASEAN Economic Community(AEC), because it may be used as the official language of ASEAN. So, we have already known that English has a big role to face ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). 

Now, we should arise the awareness to learn English from the beginning so that we can prepare by the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). If we could speak English fluently, we will get ready to confront the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and be ready to compete with people from Southeast Asia.
